Get Started – Funding to help kids participate
Round 3 opens 10am on Monday 10 February 2014
DON'T DELAY WILL GO FAST
2ND ROUND LATER IN 2014
Get Started assists children and young people who can least afford or may otherwise benefit from joining a sport or recreation club. Eligible children and young people are provided with a voucher of up to $150 to help pay for club membership and/or participation fees.
Section Leaders and Group Leaders are encouraged to talk to family members who they feel might benefit from these vouchers. The parent, guardian / carer will need to register for a QGrants account through the website and create a user name and password.
http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/funding/getinthegame/getstarted.html
If the parent, guardian / carer have a Centrelink card they can complete the application form online without the need to do anything else. If they do not have a Centrelink card they can still apply, but they will need to get two referrals which can be the child’s teacher and principal.
Once the vouchers have been claimed they should be handed to the Section Leader. The Group Leader is asked to collate and forward all Vouchers to the Grants and Project Officer at the Queensland Branch Support Office, who will arrange for the vouchers to be redeemed and the funds transferred to the Groups account.
If the application is for a new member the Voucher must accompany an A5 application form. The Group can decide to use the $150 towards the registration fee and any excess charges will need to be paid in addition to the voucher. If the full $150 is not required to be used towards registration fees then the Group will be reimbursed the difference.
If the member already exists the $150 will be returned to the Group who can chose to apply it to the Group fees, refund the family or hold it for next year.
Who can apply?
Children and young people from the age of five and under the age of 18 who are residents of Queensland and:
• hold or whose parent, guardian / carer holds a Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card
• Other children or young people identified by two referral agents (http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/funding/getinthegame/referral-agents.html)
*The eligibility criteria are applied at the time of application.
If a child is eligible for Get Started, they are not guaranteed a voucher. The funding will be distributed in two rounds each year on a first come, first served basis. Once the allocation for each round is exhausted, the program will close and no further vouchers will be offered for that round.
How to apply? Parents, Guardians and Carers
All eligible children and young people in receipt of a voucher in 2013 are eligible to reapply for a voucher in 2014.
A QGrants account is required to apply for a voucher. Applicants must use their personal email address and personal QGrants account to apply for a voucher. They can register for a QGrants account at any time and are encouraged to register for an account prior to the next voucher release.
[Important: Do not use a mobile phone or tablet device; you will not be able to complete the application process.]
Where can I present the voucher?
The Scout Association of Australia, Queensland Branch Inc. is registered to redeem vouchers against the cost of membership. Vouchers should be handed to Section Leaders who will pass them to Group Leaders to collate and submit the Queensland Branch Support Office where they will be redeemed and funds transferred to the Group account.
Voucher expiry
Vouchers expire approximately three months after the round opens. If vouchers are not presented to the Scout Group before the expiry date, the child or young person will not be eligible for another voucher until the next calendar year.
