McHappy Day - November 2011

The 12th November saw Beenleigh Scout Group participate in McHappy Day with Mc Donalds Beenleigh to raise much needed money for Ronad McDonald Charities and the Royal Childrens Hospital.

It was an extremely hot day but there was still an outstanding turnout of youth members from all sections to lend a helping hand.  We sold raffle tickets and collected donations in store and through the Drive through.

This was the fifth year that Scouts Queensland was involved in McHappy Day and we will definitely be back next year.  Thank you to all parents, leaders and youth members who came along.

Your hard work was well appreciated by McDonald's quoting their exact words "They couldn't have done it without you!".  Well done team.

Flood Donations Update

We have had such a huge turn out for our Donation Drive. The overwhelming support to give has been tremendous and we are flattered by the goods being donated.

We have been able to send our first ute full of items out the Ipswich Showgrounds Evacuation Centre. They were asking for Milk and basic items for hygene. Below is a photo of our groups first run.

There will be more to come, we are sending a large amount to the Goodna Scout group, who are setting up as a distribution point. Most in tis area have lost everything. I know first hand, as i was out there on Tuesday cleaning up.

Every little bit helps.

The Flood Appeal Day 1

Wow, what a fantastic effort today. We have packed over 80 boxes of deodorants, baby products, toiletries, towels, bathroom items, and plenty of school booklist items.

The day started at the Beenleigh Market place and Coles Beenleigh. It was all about establishing our appeal, but what we did not expect was the huge generosity of the Beenleigh people. One lady provided an entire trolley of goods.

So many also apologised for not giving as they had already donated. They just couldn't do more, not that we were asking for more, they had already done their bit.

The photo above shows Tabitha and Rikki with the second wave of donations.

There were plenty of hands at the den to help sort the wave of donations.

After a full day and the boxes stacked away we head home ready for what is hoped a continued support and supply of desperately needed goods.

We are opening as a Donation Centre this weekend coming

From 8am until 4pm Saturday and Sunday, and 3pm to 7pm Tues, Thurs and Fri, the Beenleigh Scout Den will be open for people to come along and leave necessary donations for the flood victims.
Our group would like to focus on the family needs as well as the needs of those returning to school in the coming weeks. As some schools will be totally wiped out, and their resources reduced we are appealing to the greater Beenleigh area public to donate the following items.

  • Back to school gear
    •  Books, pencils, lunchboxes, sporting equipment, hats, shoes and socks etc
  • Toiletries
    • Ladies sanitary items
  • General hygene items - soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant etc
  • Hand Santising Lotion
  • Baby Items
    • Tinned food, Nappies, baby powder, baby wipes, creams etc
  • Cleaning Supplies
    • Buckets, mops, bleach, mops, etc
  • Washng Powders
  • Insect Repellent
  • Bottled Water
  • Long Life Milk
  • Sunscreen
  • Tinned foods and fruit
We are asking the public to refrain from clothes at this time as we believe there is enough supply to accomodate. We certainly will not refuse it, but it will not be our priority,

What we need to assist us in this effort:
  • Boxes
  • Plastic Bags
  • offers of transport to help get the items out to areas once we have been updated on the location to send too.
  • Possibility of a second sorting area in the event we run out of room.
Please feel free to come along and donate these items as they will be needed inthe long term as the clean begins this week.
